Christopher M. Shulman

After graduating cum laude from Stetson University College of Law in 1991, Chris Shulman initially practiced as an attorney for almost 10 years, representing individuals, labor unions, and employers in connection with a variety of statutory, contractual, and common-law employment law claims. He also handled general practice, business disputes, and personal injury matters for clients. He has been a member of the Florida Bar for more than 25 years and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.  From 1995 to 2001, Chris mediated on and off, but, since January 2002, Chris has limited his practice to service as a neutral dispute resolution professional. Between service as a mediator, arbitrator, hearing officer, special magistrate, and federal-sector EEO complaint adjudicator, Chris has resolved – or, in the case of mediation, helped the parties resolve – more than 5500 matters.

Chris Shulman is a Florida Certified Circuit, Family, and County Mediator (#8542CFR), a Florida Court-Appointed Arbitrator, a United States District Court mediation panelist (M.D. Fla.), a Florida Hurricane Mediation Mediator, a Florida Mortgage Foreclosure Mediator, a Pinellas County Wage Theft Special Magistrate, a Hillsborough County Employee Discipline Appeals Referee, and a Primary Circuit and County Mediation Trainer and Primary Arbitration Trainer.  A prior Fellow of the American College of Civil Trial Mediators, and a current Diplomate (and former Board Member) of the Florida Academy of Professional Mediators, Chris Shulman serves on the panels of neutrals for several organizations, including the American Arbitration Association/International Centre for Dispute Resolution (Commercial/Employment, Labor, Consumer, and Large & Complex Case Panels); the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service Labor Arbitrator Panel; the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida; the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission; NASD/FINRA Dispute Resolution (Public Arbitrator/Panel Chair); and the American Health Lawyers Association’s (AHLA) Dispute Resolution Service.  In 2019, Chris was appointed to the Florida Public Employees Relations Commission roster of Special Magistrates (for Florida Governmental Collective Bargaining Impasse Proceedings).

Having served on the Hillsborough County Bar Association’s ADR Committee (he was co-Chair from 2004-2006), Chris is also a member of the Florida Circuit-Civil Mediator Society, and a charter member (and 2010-2011 Board Member) of the National Association of Distinguished Neutrals.  From 2000-2008, Chris served on the Florida Supreme Court Mediator Ethics Advisory Committee and, as of June 2020, completed his second four-year term as a member of the Florida Supreme Court’s ADR Rules and Policy Committee; in June 2017, he was appointed to the Florida Supreme Court Mediator Qualifications and Disciplinary Review Board.  Since December 2014, Chris has also been a collaboratively trained attorney/neutral, and has expanded his practice to include work as a neutral facilitator in collaborative divorce, probate, or business dispute processes.

Chris is also an Adjunct Professor at Stetson University College of Law, teaching Negotiation and Mediation Advocacy (training law students to be lawyers in those processes) and Mediation Skills Training (teaching law students to be mediators), and served as a Senior Adjunct Instructor at Keller Graduate School of Management, where he has taught Business Law and Ethics, Employment Law, and Negotiations from 1999 to 2009.
